Danielle Stockwell (Danie) is a senior beginning her second year on staff for ThisIsYork. She is involved with soccer and community service here at York. She loves playing and watching sports along with writing about them. She is excited to be Sports editor on staff this year and can't wait to create many stories!

Senior Sami Ayash runs to bring the Dukes to a tie game Friday night against Willowbrook. After a long and aggressive game the Dukes went on to win 25-23 to beat the unbeaten Willowbrook varsity football team. The whole year weve been on a thin thread and didnt know if we were going to be able to finish a full season, Ayash said. With that problem our team still worked hard at all times on and off the field and gave it 100%.

Senior Ellie Bernard is ready to play as she is looking for a pass from her team during her sophomore year against Hinsdale Central in a sectional game, but ended in a tough loss by one in overtime. “Being a senior this year requires a lot of responsibility. Each year seniors take on a big leadership role and have a lot of input on how to run the team. My goal for this year is for it to be our teams most successful season, and I believe it’s very possible,” Bernard said.

Spring sport athletes let out a sigh of relief as their seasons finally begin

York Varsity Hockey beats Renegades 10-1 to have a chance to advance to the next round of the state series. After two other games this weekend the team pulls through to finish the weekend strong and work towards advancing. With team motivation and hard work sophomore Frank Nicosia scored four goals, two in the first period and two in the third. Honestly it is everything to me that I am taking the ice with 21 kids who I call my brothers and I know that every single one of them have my back and I have theirs, Nicosia said.

Junior diver Boe Trainer dives into the water at their first day back to practice, after IHSA announced that winter sports will resume session. Dive team is now training for meets and will continue to practice each day to work towards the season they have been wanting. After hearing that dive would be canceled due to COVID-19, I was devastated, but not knowing that we get to start up again Monday is so exciting and I cant wait Trainer said.

York Basketball takes practice into their own hands after the news of possibly missing out on the 2020-2021 season. Senior Tyler Olsen hosted workouts and scrimmages for the team throughout the week. It is important to stay connected as a team and keep working in case we are lucky to have a season, said Olsen

Girls Varsity Cross Country top seven runners, juniors Katelyn Winton and Erin Powers, sophomores Bria Bennis and Brooke Berger, and freshmen Michaela Quinn, Maggie Owens and Katherine Klimek hold their state trophy after an undefeated 2020 season. “Our whole top 7 is all coming back for next year and this is very motivating! We are all excited for next year hoping that things will go back to normal so that we could possibly get another state title!,” sophomore top runner Brooke Berger said.
